Cruz Control

Dominick Cruz has risen! It was announced today that Cruz will fight Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 on September 27, which will be his first action in the Octagon since October 2011. This is especially exciting, considering that Cruz is a part of Alliance MMA here in San Diego with us.

The road has been tough for Cruz, as he’s coming back from a torn ACL that has required multiple surgeries to repair. In the meantime we’ve seen Renan Barao, and now T.J. Dillishaw claim the Bantamweight Title that belonged to Cruz at the time of his injury.

All these factors make for a compelling story in the Bantamweight Division. Will we see another fight between Cruz and his long-time rival Urijah Faber? Will Cruz eventually get to square off against Dillishaw, a teammate of Faber’s at Team Alpha Male? Any chance we see Cruz vs. Barao? Regardless of how this all plays out, it’s great to see that Cruz is fighting again and his return only adds to an already strong UFC 178 event featuring Jones vs. Gustafson II.
