TheFightVoice crew chats with Oscar Negrete, a Colombian fighter with an impressive amateur background and rising professional boxer, who is preparing for his fight on July 9, 2014 at The Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Negrete is fighting on a stacked card of young stars showcasing their talents under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, live on Fox Sport 1. Be sure to tune in!
We first met Oscar Negrete briefly, in May 2014, when spending some time with World Champion fighter Leo Santa Cruz at the Who’s Next Boxing Gym in East Los Angeles. Negrete, a rising star inside of the ring, came from Colombia and has made his home in Los Angeles.
Negrete, an orthodox fighter, holds a professional record of 4-0 and is coming off a successful year in 2013 where he fought three times and recorded three victories. Negrete looks to further his career on July 9, 2014, live on Fox Sport 1, where he will fight for the first time on national television in a 4-round junior featherweight bout.
TheFightVoice sat down with Negrete briefly as he prepares for his fight on July 9.
TheFightVoice: I am honored to be on the phone with Colombian rising star Oscar Negrete from Las Vegas as he prepares for his July 9 bout. Oscar, thank you so much for the time and good luck tomorrow in Las Vegas.
TheFightVoice: Oscar, you are fighting on July 9, at the Hard Rock Casino Las Vegas, under Golden Boy Promotions on national television. What does it mean to you to be able to showcase your skills on a major card like this?
Oscar Negrete: It is an honor. I want to thank Golden Boy for the opportunity. It is such an honor to be part of such a prestigious event. I especially want to thank the sponsors for putting it together and it is a true honor for me.
TheFightVoice: What is your strategy going into the fight?
Oscar Negrete: We didn’t get a chance to study our opponent too much, but we are going to give it our all and fight hard. We are going to show up to fight and put on a show.
TheFightVoice: You are coming off four victories with your most recent being this past June. What does it mean to have these victories under your belt early in your career?
Oscar Negrete: It is very important. We train hard for every fight. And those fights were no different. I am ready for this fight and ready for anything that comes my way.
TheFightVoice: Tell me about what it is like and what it means to you to train with the Mexican Tradition Boxing Team (MT Boxing).
Oscar Negrete: I feel happy training there. This is my home. These guys are my team and I am grateful. I am just truly happy to be part of this team and I am excited for what the future holds for MT Boxing.
TheFightVoice: What does it mean to represent your country (Colombia) on national television?
Oscar Negrete: It is amazing. And it truly motivates me to work hard and give this (boxing) my all. I look forward to July 9 so I can represent where I am from.
TheFightVoice: Do you have a prediction for the fight tomorrow?
Oscar Negrete: It doesn’t matter if it is a decision or a knockout. We are going for the win.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow, July 9, 2014 on Fox Sport 1 as Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions bring fight fans a special night of fights highlighting young, Olympic-caliber talent and the return of Alfonso Gomez to the ring.
