On Episode #30 of the “Going Down Swinging” podcast, not even 3,000 miles could keep the fellas from firing up the “mics” and giving the fans what they want. As always, Jerry steered the ship from THEFIGHTVOICE studios as Matt called into the show from the airport in Austin, Texas. As usual, antics were discussed, fights were broken down and we were joined by two important individuals from the combat sports world.
In the first part of the show, the fellas recap the exciting UFC Boston card, break down the fights and discuss what it means for San Diego’s fight community to have the UFC strap back where it belongs; around the waist of Dominick Cruz. Also, we discuss the Kenny Florian plagiarism incident and what it means on a larger scale among the MMA media contingent.
In our first interview, we are joined by MMA royalty, UFC Champion and now VP at Asia-based promotion, ONEFC, Rich Franklin. In light of an unfortunate incident that occurred with a fighter in December, where a young man died during a drastic weight-cut, ONEFC has taken it upon themselves to adjust their weight classes and the methods in which fighters determine their fighting weight. This is going to be an interesting topic in 2016 and something that is continuously discussed until changes are made across the board. Franklin breaks it down like a true professional.
Also, we are joined by Ashley Nichols of Canada, who fights in the co-main event of Lion Fight 27 next Friday at Pechanga Casino against fan-favorite Tiffany “TimeBomb” Van Soest.
