On Episode #41 of the “Going Down Swinging” podcast, the fellas regroup from UFC Fight Night Brisbane and dive deep into the news that shocked the MMA world on Monday. After 19 years of politics and lobbying on the New York State Assembly floor, the ban on MMA was lifted with a landslide vote that opens the door for UFC, Bellator and WSOF events in New York as soon as this year.
Time: 10:25 – Kevin Iole, columnist for Yahoo Sports and combat sports beat veteran, joins the show to discuss how it all went down, what fans can expect from a future MMA card in New York and the importance of this news for a sport that remains in a stage of steady growth.
Time: 36:34 – Also, news broke this week that Glory middleweight Dustin Jacoby, who is coming off 5 straight wins all by KO, will get his shot at Glory gold as he will take on new champion Simon Marcus in a highly-anticipated bout at Glory 30 in Los Angeles this May. Dustin joins the show to tell us how it all happened and what fans can expect from him in his first title shot.
As usual, the fellas deal out some classic banter as they take a trip around the big blue marble to discuss Hulk Hogan’s big win, Bernie Sanders, Hillary and Bill, Lebron James inevitable departure from Cleveland (again) and what exactly happened to Ariel Helwani’s spot on the UFC Fox Sports broadcasts.
Lastly, R.I.P to a legend; Phife Dawg, of A Tribe Called Quest, who passed away Wednesday. Tribe is near and dear to my heart and one of the reasons I embraced hip hop as a doughy white kid who lived in the suburbs.
